Winterizing Your Hair

As the temperatures dip, what is a helpful way to maintain healthy hair? We read about how the heat and the Sun from summer is a threat to shiny, lustrous hair but the cold and the lack of moisture in the air during the winter months can be just as harmful. I recommend that instead of repairing hair that is already damaged, you should help protect your strands from becoming damaged in the first place. There are lots of products and hair treatments designed for this situation.

First of all, you need to determine your hair type - whether it is coarse, medium or fine and if your hair is either thick or thin. Both shampoos and conditioners are specific to different hair types and they can contain ingredients that may damage hair such as silicones, sulfates and parabens so it is important to read the labels. Many of these products can also accumulate on the hair with repeated uses, so it is beneficial to switch it up occasionally. There are specialized treatments for color treated and permed hair to ensure glimmering sheen and color protection. Take advantage of in-salon treatments to repair damaged hair and improve the condition of the scalp. Ask a professional for advice for home care or to get a customized treatment for your specific needs. Make a commitment to have hair that is shiny and healthy this season to combat the winter woes.
